No. 417: Boy
Band: U2
Album: Boy
Why Rolling Stone gets it right: Well, "I Will Follow" isn't the worst song I've ever heard.
Why Rolling Stone gets it wrong: It's U2's first record, which means it's the beginning of the end for decent music. It's self-indulgent and annoying.
Best song: Blah.
Worst song: Blah.
Is it awesome?: Come on, now.
I'm sorry, I really have nothing to say about this honking piece of junk. It was popular with the gay community, for what that's worth. Otherwise, I hate U2 and I hate this album.

Are you deaf? You might not like U2, but to write off their music (even this first effort) as a "honking piece of junk" is a travesty (as much as there can be a travesty in writing rock reviews anyway). This album was every bit as important to changing guitar sounds as VH I (which we both agree is better than RS says). You could argue that it doesn't belong in the top 500 (though I'd disagree), but it is an important and influential album even if you can't figure it out or it can't figure you out.
I am, indeed, deaf.
I was thinking that might be the case, but I've also noticed that you don't buy the hype about the Stones. Being deaf, how did you figure out that they aren't all that great?
One of the problems that mars your otherwise excellent site, are obviously your biases. To be fair, you give us a warning on what they are early on in the process. But it takes a good reviewer to set aside his biases and try to take an objective view once in a while. I've never cared much for U2 or Bono, just as I've never cared much for the Beatles either. There are few songs from both bands I really like. But I still wouldn't deny them their respective importance and even quality.
Wow.
I hate U2, maybe more than any band I've ever heard.
But that was the worst thing you've ever put on this site.
Nice fucking effort.
Not a bad point.
