Band: Miles Davis
Album: Sketches of Spain
Why Rolling Stone gets it right: Miles Davis and Gil Evans collaborated to make Spanish folk music palpable to a large audience and add Davis' fantastic chops.
Why Rolling Stone gets it wrong: I cannot even begin to try and describe jazz in a succinct way.
Best song: "Concierto de Aranjuez" is great. Hell, the whole album is great.
Worst song: Uhhhh.
Is it awesome?: Sure.
I cannot even begin to describe jazz in an intelligent way, so I am simply going to punt this one and send you to our good friend Wikipedia or Allmusic.com to read about it. It's great, but, again, I cannot describe why it is great in a reasonable way.

It's my least favorite of all the Gil Evans collaborations, but I love it. I just bought a copy of it for my Grandfather last Christmas.
